Market Alert : Global Sell-Off Extends: Liquidity Fears and Growth Concerns Dominate

ASX/200 Closed Higher By 1.21%; Lifted by Industrials

By the end of the trading session on 30 August 2023, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 1.21% and settled at 7,297.70. Out of 11 sectors, 02 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200.

Industrials and Healthcare sectors were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 2.02% and 1.81% respectively in their index values. Telecommunication Services and Consumer Discretionary sectors were the top-declining sectors, gaining 0.24% and 0.16% respectively in their index values.

Brainchip Holdings Limited (ASX: BRN) and Sayona Mining Limited (ASX: VNT) were the top gainers, with 9.090% and 8.695% growth in share prices, respectively. Chalice Mining Limited (ASX: CHN) and Boral Limited (ASX: BLD) were the top losers, with 25.199% and 7.953% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Oil prices continued their upward trend for the fifth consecutive day, supported by indications of a significant reduction in US inventories and an overall positive sentiment in broader markets.
  • The Dow concluded with a gain of 0.85%, the S&P 500 rose by 1.45%, and the NASDAQ exhibited a higher value by 1.74%.
  • The Hang Seng index displayed a 0.42% increase, while the FTSE 100 experienced a notable rise of 1.72% on the current day.
