Information Technology and Utilities sectors were the top- gaining sectors, gaining 1.18% and 0.97% respectively in their index values. On the other hand, Energy and Consumer Staples sector was the top-losing sector, losing 0.52% and 0.45% respectively in their index values.
AGL Energy Limited (ASX: AGL) and Liontown Resources Limited (ASX: LTR) were the top gainers, with 10.275% and 6.315% growth in share prices, respectively. REA Group Limited (ASX: REA) and Megellan Financial Group Limited (ASX: MFG) were the top losers, with 4.182% and 2.971% drop in share prices, respectively.
News Corp's ASX-listing surged by 6.3% to reach a new closing peak of $41.85. The media conglomerate reported a significant 95% increase in second-quarter profit, amounting to $US183 million.
Mirvac Group experienced a shift to a statutory loss of $201 million during the half-year period, in contrast to a profit of $215 million in the same period last year.
Charter Hall WALE REIT, specializing in leasing office properties to government and corporate lessees, witnessed a 7.1% decline in operating earnings and dividends. This decline was attributed to increased finance costs impacting the company's financial performance.
The US government conducted a historically large auction of $US42 billion worth of 10-year notes, yielding lower-than-expected returns.
