ASX/200 Closed higher by 0.07%; lifted by Information Technology

By the end of the trading session on 09 February 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.07% and settled at 7,644.80. Out of 11 sectors, 06 closed higher along with the ASX 200.

Information Technology and Healthcare sectors were the top- gaining sectors, gaining 1.15% and 0.83% respectively in their index values. On the other hand, Energy and Utilities sector was the top-losing sector, losing 1.36% and 0.78% respectively in their index values.

Liontown Resources Limited (ASX: LTR) and Boral Limited (ASX: LTR) were the top gainers, with 10.275% and 6.315% growth in share prices, respectively. Boss Energy Limited (ASX: BOE) and Paladin Energy Limited (ASX: PDN) were the top losers, with 12.688% and 7.018% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Cochlear shares surged to a record closing high of $322.73, rising by 5.9% and extending the gains from Thursday after the company upgraded its profit guidance for the financial year 2024.
  • Bitcoin reached over $46,300 in the afternoon, marking a post-January-10-high, following approval from the US SEC for spot bitcoin funds on exchanges.
  • Oil prices rallied after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's dismissal of a potential ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict triggered algorithmic buying in the markets.
  • The Dow closed up by 0.13%, the S&P 500 increased by 0.06%, and the NASDAQ finished higher by 0.24%.
  • However, the Hang Seng dropped by -0.83%, and the FTSE 100 decreased by -0.44% today.
