Market Alert : Global Sell-Off Extends: Liquidity Fears and Growth Concerns Dominate

ASX/200 Closed Higher By 0.88%; Lifted by Materials

By the end of the trading session on 15 December 2023, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.88% and settled at 7,442.70. Out of 11 sectors 06 closed higher along with the ASX 200.

Materials and Energy sectors were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 1.94% and 1.86% respectively in their index values. On the other hand, the A-REIT and Utilities sectors are the top 2 losing sectors, declining 0.58% and 0.28% in their index values

Core Lithium Limited (ASX: CXO) and Weebit Nano Limited (ASX: WBT) were the top gainers, with 15.094% and 14.787% growth in share prices, respectively. Telix Pharmacy Limited (ASX: TLX) and Cromwell Property Group (ASX: CMW) were the top losers, with 10.220% and 9.678% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Oil rebounded from a five-month low, driven by broader market rallies following indications that the US Federal Reserve's aggressive rate-raising campaign has concluded.
  • The Dow closed up 0.43%, the S&P 500 increased by 0.26%, and the NASDAQ showed a 0.19% gain.
  • The Hang Seng experienced a 2.16% rise, and the FTSE 100 saw a 1.33% increase on the current trading day.
