Market Alert : Global Sell-Off Extends: Liquidity Fears and Growth Concerns Dominate

ASX 200 Closed Higher By 0.47%; 10 Out Of 11 Sectors Closed In Green

By the end of the trading session on 30 August 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.47% and settled at 6,998.30. Out of 11 sectors, 10 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200.

The Information Technology and Energy sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 1.84% and 1.43% in their index value. On the other hand, Materials sector was the only declining sector, declined 0.44% in its index values.

Mineral Resources Limited (ASX: MIN) and The A2 Milk Company Limited (ASX: A2M) were the top gainers with 6.204% and 6.111% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Ramelius Resources Limited (ASX: RMS) and Domino’s Pizza Enterprises Limited (ASX: DMP) were the top losers, with 5.233% and 3.709% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Sandfire Resource's share price declined after it posted a net profit of US$111.4 million in FY22, down from US$128.6 million in FY21.
  • The dollar struggled to regain momentum today after being beaten back from a two-decade high versus major peers by a reinvigorated euro.
  • U.S. stocks closed lower in the previous session, adding to the last week's sharp losses on nagging concerns about the Federal Reserve's determination to aggressively hike interest rates to fight inflation even as the economy slows.
  • Iron ore futures dropped below US$100 a tonne today, and spot prices slumped to the lowest in a week, pressured by renewed worries over COVID-19 curbs and steel output restrictions in top producer China.
  • Oil prices increased after traders bet that OPEC will cut production to offset any significant decline in crude rates.
  • Dow has closed down 0.6%, S&P 500 down by 0.7%, and NASDAQ closed lower by 1.0%.
  • Hang Seng is down by 0.55%, and FTSE 100 is down by 0.70%.
