By the end of the trading session on 17 August 2023, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.42% and settled at 7,056.10. Out of 11 sectors, 04 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200.
Information Technology and A-REIT sectors were the top-gaining sectors, gaining 1.33% and 1.11% respectively in their index values. Healthcare and Utilities sectors were the top declining sectors, declining 1.21% and 0.28% respectively in their index values.
Cromwell Property Group (ASX: CMW) and TPG Telecom Limited (ASX: TPG) were the top gainers, with 9.722% and 5.598% growth in share prices, respectively. Barcop Limited (ASX: BAP) and Sayonna Mining Limited (ASX: SYA) were the top losers, with 11.527% and 4.445% drop in share prices, respectively.
Bapcor's shares fell by 11.5% to $5.91. The company had signaled that its year-to-date revenue growth had slowed to a low-single digit percentage rate compared to the previous year.
Paladin Energy saw a 3.7% decrease in its stock price, which now stands at 92.5¢. Analysts at Citi initiated coverage on the uranium company with a sell rating and a price target of 90¢.
HUB24's shares increased by 1.4% to $34.58 as its total funds under administration rose by 21% to $82.7 billion during the September quarter.
Overnight, both oil and gold prices decreased due to hopes that Israel's response to the Hamas attacks would be more measured than initially expected.
The Dow closed with a 0.93% increase, while the S&P 500 decreased by 1.06%, and the NASDAQ ended 1.20% lower.
The Hang Seng showed a 0.57% increase, and the FTSE 100 gained 0.41% today.
