ASX/200 Closed Higher By 0.38%; Dragged down by Healthcare

By the end of the trading session on 15 August 2023, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.38% and settled at 7,305.00. Out of 11 sectors, 08 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200.

Healthcare and Information Technology sectors were the top gaining sectors, gaining 3.11% and 1.83% respectively in their index values. A-REIT and Materials sectors were the top declining sectors, declining 0.65% and 0.34% respectively in their index values.

Lake Resources Limited (ASX: LKE) and GUD Holdings Limited (ASX: GUD) were the top gainers, with 16.666% and 14.872% growth in share prices, respectively. Syrah Resources Limited (ASX: LKE) and Seek Limited (ASX: SEK) were the top losers, with 5.148% and 4.271% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Life360 experienced a notable surge of 12.3%, attributed to a remarkable 45% year-on-year revenue increase, totaling AU$70.8 million ($109.1 million).
  • GUD Holdings saw a substantial jump of 14.9%, driven by a remarkable 252% rise in its statutory net profit, amounting to AU$98.6 million during the 2022-23 period.
  • The Australian dollar faced a decline following second-quarter wages data that fell short of expectations, thereby strengthening the case for the Reserve Bank to maintain current interest rates.
  • Oil maintained a loss due to mounting concerns about the health of the Chinese economy, coupled with the strengthening of the US dollar.
  • The Dow concluded with a modest increase of 0.07%, the S&P 500 displayed a more noticeable rise of 0.57%, and the NASDAQ recorded a significant uptick of 1.05%.
  • On the other hand, the Hang Seng experienced a decline of -0.51%, while the FTSE 100 also dipped by -0.23% on the current day.
