Market Alert : Global Sell-Off Extends: Liquidity Fears and Growth Concerns Dominate

ASX 200 Closed Higher By 0.31%; Lifted By Utilities and Industrials Sectors

By the end of the trading session on 19 October 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.31% and settled at 6,800.10. Out of 11 sectors, 9 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200.

The Utilities and Industrials sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 0.95% and 0.90% in their index values. On the other hand, the Energy and Information Technology sectors were the top 2 declining sectors, declined by 0.75% and 0.10% in their index values.

Novonix Limited (ASX: NVX) and Core Lithium Ltd (ASX: CXO) were the top gainers, with 18.994% and 8.235% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Megaport Limited (ASX: MP1) and St Barbara Limited (ASX: SBM) were the top losers, with a 22.144% and 4.762% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Megaport Limited’s share price plunged 22.1% after its sales growth for the September quarter missed analysts’ expectations.
  • Oil prices rose today, recovering from recent losses as signs of a bigger-than-expected draw in U.S. crude inventories offset concerns over plans by the White House to increase supply in the near term.
  • Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank President Neel Kashkari announced on Tuesday that Federal Reserve might need to push its benchmark policy rate above 4.75% if underlying inflation does not stop rising.
  • Dow has closed up by 1.1%, S&P 500 up by 1.2%, and NASDAQ closed higher by 0.9%.
  • Hang Seng is down by 1.73%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.24%.
