Market Alert : Global Sell-Off Extends: Liquidity Fears and Growth Concerns Dominate

ASX 200 Closed Higher By 0.28%; Lifted By A-REIT and Consumer Discretionary Sectors

By the end of the trading session on 25 October 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.28% and settled at 6,798.60. Out of 11 sectors, 9 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200.

The A-REIT and Consumer Discretionary sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 0.40% and 0.10% in their index values. On the other hand, the Energy and Materials sectors were the top 2 declining sectors, declined by 1.59% and 0.96% in their index values.

Sayona Mining Limited (ASX: SYA) and Credit Corp Group Limited (ASX: CCP) were the top gainers, with 10.638% and 7.904% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Reliance World Corporation Limited (ASX: RWC) and Ampol Limited (ASX: ALD) were the top losers, with a 13.371% and 12.564% drop in share prices, respectively.

Other Factors influencing the market:

  • Ampol Limited’s share price declined after the company’s chief executive Matt Halliday said he expected further “volatility” in the market, and the company pointed to uncertainties affecting trading conditions, including a recently announced increase in Chinese export quotas.
  • Reliance Worldwide plunged more than 13% following the company warned about the rising input costs and a hit from the strong U.S. dollar.
  • Oil prices rose today as the U.S. dollar eased against major peers but gains were limited by worries of slowing global fuel demand growth amid bearish economic data from key oil-importing economies such as China.
  • Dow has closed up by 1.3%, S&P 500 up by 1.2%, and NASDAQ closed higher by 0.9%.
  • Hang Seng is down by 0.07%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.64%.
