Market Alert : Global Sell-Off Extends: Liquidity Fears and Growth Concerns Dominate

ASX 200 slips marginally today but gained 1.52% in last 5 days  

By the end of the day’s trade on 31 March 2022, the benchmark index ASX 200 dropped 0.198% and settled at 7499.6. Most sectors on ASX ended in the red zone. Since last two days, the Information Technology sector, which was the top gainer, dropped 2.18% on ASX and became the worst performing sector during the day. From this sector, cloud-based online accounting software provided noted a drop of AU$4.910 (4.561%) in its share price. It positioned itself among the top five weak performers during the day. Block Inc. (ASX: SQ2), Afterpay’s new owner, noted a 4.561% drop in the share price.

The consumer discretionary and the energy sector were the following two worst performers, with over a 1% drop in the index values.

The market was driven by the weak market sentiment due to the lack of a substantial breakthrough in the discussion between Russia and Ukraine to end the war. Currently, Ukrainian forces are getting themselves ready for the fresh attacks in the east of the country as Moscow accumulates its troop after experiencing hindrances near Kyiv.

At the same time, the US is looking to increase economic pressure on Moscow by implementing further sanctions on Russia in the coming period.

The material sector was the top gainer for the day, with a 1.46% gain in the index value.
