Market Alert : Global Sell-Off Extends: Liquidity Fears and Growth Concerns Dominate

ASX 200 ends lower; IT sector was the top loser

By the end of the trading session on 06 April 2022, the benchmark index ASX 200 ended lower by 0.502% and settled at 7490.1 after setting a new 50-day high. Most sectors ended in the red zone, probably driven by the possible imposition of western sanctions on Russia over its invasion on Ukraine and concerns related to the aggressive monetary tightening by the US Federal Reserve. Out of 11 sectors, nine sectors settled in the red zone.

The Information Technology sector was the top loser with a 2.881% drop in the index values after leading the market the previous day. The resources sector that has fuelled ASX 200 for a long time also cooled during the day. This sector slipped over 1.5% and settled at 18726.5.

The financial and consumer staple sectors were the only two sectors with marginal growth of 0.696% and 0.111%, respectively.

On ASX 200, Whitehaven Coal Limited (ASX: WHC) and PolyNovo Limited were the top two gainers with 5.528% and 4.629% growth in the share price. On the other hand, Novonix Limited (ASX: NVX) and Lynas Rare Earths Limited (ASX: LYC) were the top losers, with a 6.888% and 5.959% drop in the index values.
