ASX 200 dragged down by 0.28%; China and Tech stocks send ASX lower
By the end of the trading session on 24 May 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed lower by 0.28% and settled at 7128.80. 9 out of 11 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200. The A-REIT and Financials sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 0.46% and 0.26% in their index value. On the other hand, the Information Technology and Telecommunication Services sectors were the top 2 losing sectors, declined 3.02% and 1.88% in their index values.
S&P/ASX 200 mainly dragged down by Tabcorp Holdings and Nufarm Limited, which were fell by 80.244% and 14.555%, respectively. Brent Crude is falling by more than 1.3%, as concerns over the possible recession and China's COVID-19 curbs outweighed an expectation of tight global supply.
Allkem Limited (ASX: AKE) and Perseus Mining Limited (ASX: PRU) were the top gainers with 3.698% and 3.305% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Tabcorp Holdings Limited (ASX: TAH) and Nufarm Limited (ASX: NUF) were the top losers, with an 80.244% and 14.555% drop in the share price, respectively.
U.S. market has taken some comfort after U.S. President Joe Biden's comment that he was considering easing sanctions on China and Beijing's ongoing stimulus promises.
Dow has closed up by 2.0%, S&P 500 up by 1.9%, and NASDAQ closed up by 1.6%.
Hang Seng is down by 2.15%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.89%.
