Market Alert : Global Sell-Off Extends: Liquidity Fears and Growth Concerns Dominate

ASX 200 Sharply Lower By 1.18%; A-REIT Sector Was The Biggest Laggard

By the end of the trading session on 09 May 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 slipped 1.18% and settled at 7120.60. 8 out of 11 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200. The A-REIT and Information Technology sectors are the top 2 losers. Both these indices declined 4.16% and 3.21% in their index value. On the other hand, the Energy and Consumer Staples are the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 0.527% and 0.197% in their index values.

The S&P/ASX 200 was down because of heavy sell-off across the real estate, IT sector, and materials sectors. Mining stocks faced pressure from reports that Shanghai is tightening its COVID-19 lockdown, sparking concerns about less demand for commodities, particularly iron ore.

Polynovo Limited (ASX: PNV) and Westpac Banking Corporation (ASX: WBC) were the top gainers with 3.333% and 3.231% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Novonix Limited (ASX: NVX) and Imugene Limited (ASX: IMU) were the top losers, with a 12.311% and 11.112% drop in the share price, respectively.
