ASX 200 Ended Lower; IT Sector Was The Biggest Laggard

By the end of the trading session on 25 July 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended lower by 0.02% and settled at 6,789.90. Out of 11 sectors, 7 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200.

The Utilities and Materials sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 1.08% and 1.08% in their index value. On the other hand, the Information Technology and Telecommunication Services sectors were the top 2 losing sectors, declined 1.51% and 1.15% in their index values.

Insurance Australia Group Limited (ASX: IAG) and Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (ASX: URW) were the top gainers with 5.938% and 5.191% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, EML Payments Limited (ASX: EML) and Appen Limited (ASX: APX) were the top losers, with a 22.176% and 15.023% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • FLT’s share price gained after the company announced that it expects to report an underlying EBITDA loss between AU$180 million and AU$190 million for the full year, which is less than the previous guidance.
  • Oil prices are falling on concerns that an expected interest rate hike from the U.S. Federal Reserve could dent fuel demand.
  • Dow has closed down by 0.4%, S&P 500 down by 0.9%, and NASDAQ closed higher by 1.9%.
  • Hang Seng is down by 0.42%, and FTSE 100 is down by 0.32%.
