ASX 200 Ended Higher By 0.86%; Lifted By Energy and Utilities Sectors

By the end of the trading session on 28 June 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 0.86% and settled at 6,763.60. Out of 11 sectors, 6 sectors closed higher along with the gain in the ASX 200.

The Energy and Utilities sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 3.62% and 3.16% in their index values. On the other hand, Consumer Discretionary and Information Technology sectors were the top 2 declining sectors, declined 1.34% and 0.58% in their index values.

Collins Foods Limited (ASX: CKF) and Polynovo Limited (ASX: PNV) were the top gainers with 11.521% and 7.251% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Imugene Limited (ASX: IMU) and Tyro Payments Limited (ASX: TYR) were the top losers, with a 10.417% and 9.827% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • The energy sector led the market, gained 3.62%, with Woodside Energy jumped 4.34% to $32.7. Also gained: Beach Energy up almost 7%, New Hope Coal up 6.6%, and Santos added 2.7%.
  • Collin Foods’s share price gained 11.52%, following the company delivering revenue up 11.1% to $1184.5 million in fiscal 2022. Also, Broker Wilsons has labeled the full-year profit report as strong, with EBITDA 5% above the broker’s forecasts and net profit an 8% beat.
  • The major US stock indexes were closed modestly lower after oscillating through much of the session, with weakness in interest rate-sensitive mega-caps such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Alphabet providing the heaviest drag.
  • Oil extends gains for a third session as threats to global output risked tightening the market further before OPEC+ meets this week to discuss supply. Investors are still weighing worries over an economic slowdown against concern over lost Russian supply amid sanctions related to the conflict in Ukraine.
  • Dow has closed down by 0.2%, S&P 500 down by 0.2%, and NASDAQ closed lower by 0.7%.
  • Hang Seng is down by 0.81%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.69%.
