ASX 200 Closed Up By 0.82%; All Sectors Closed Higher Except Financial
By the end of the trading session on 05 May 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed up by 0.82% and settled at 7364.70. 10 out of 11 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200. The Information Technology and Energy sectors were the top gainers with 2.54% and 1.97% gained in their index values. On the other hand, the Financials sector is the only losing sector and declined 0.015% in its index value.
Australian shares closed higher after Wall Street recorded its best day in two years following Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said that US Central Bank was not actively considering a 75 basis points increase anytime soon.
Liontown Resources Limited (ASX: LTR) and Pilbara Minerals Limited (ASX: PLS) were the top gainers with 7.720% and 7.604% growth in share prices. On the other hand, Janus Henderson Group PLC (ASX: JHG) and Life360 INC (ASX: 360) were the top losers, with a 13.036% and 1.877% drop in the share price, respectively.
The energy sector is gaining as the Crude prices shot up after the European Union, the world's largest trading bloc, outlined plans to phase out the import of Russian oil. (US Crude gaining 0.85% to $108.72 a barrel and Brent Crude rising by 0.99% )
Janus Henderson's share fell more than 13% after the company released weaker than expected March quarter earnings in the US overnight.
Dow has closed up by 2.8%, S&P 500 up by 3.0%, and NASDAQ closed up by 3.2%.
Hang Seng is up by 0.47%, and FTSE 100 is down by 0.90%.
