ASX 200 Closed Lower By 0.32%; Consumer Discretionary Sector Was The Biggest Laggard

By the end of the trading session on 03 August 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended lower by 0.32% and settled at 6,975.90. Out of 11 sectors, 9 sectors closed lower along with the ASX 200.

The Information Technology and Materials sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 2.18% and 0.35% in their index value. On the other hand, the Consumer Discretionary and Consumer Staples sectors were the top 2 losing sectors, declined 1.23% and 0.92% in their index value.

Pinnacle Investment Management Group Limited (ASX: PNI) and Tyro Payments Limited (ASX: TYR) were the top gainers with 12.214% and 9.615% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Centuria Industrial REIT (ASX: CIP) and The Star Entertainment Group Limited (ASX: SGR) were the top losers, with a 4.014% and 3.560% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • Oil prices fell about 1% in early trade, reversing gains from the previous session ahead of a meeting of OPEC+ producers on fears of a slowdown in global growth hitting fuel demand and a firmer dollar.
  • Dow has closed down 1.2%, S&P 500 down by 0.7%, and NASDAQ closed lower by 0.2%.
  • Hang Seng is up by 0.41%, and FTSE 100 is down by 0.06%.
