ASX 200 Closed Higher By 1.11%; Buoyed By Energy and A-REIT Sectors
By the end of the trading session on 04 July 2022, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended higher by 1.11% and settled at 6,612.60. All 11 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200. The Energy and A-REIT sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 2.62% and 2.16% in their index values.
Imugene Limited (ASX: IMU) and Ingenia Communities Group (ASX: INA) were the top gainers with 12.820% and 5.316% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Magellan Financial Group Limited (ASX: MFG) and PointsBet Holdings Limited (ASX: PBH) were the top losers, with a 9.924% and 6.250% drop in share prices, respectively.
Australian shares headed for a 1.5% gain at the start of trading following Wall Street rallied into the new financial year, and bond yields sunk as the global tightening impulse meets fresh challenges.
Magellan Financial’s share price declined after the company’s head of sales and distribution, Frank Casarotti, announced to leave the asset manager in December 2023.
Breville Group jumped 5.07% to $19.05 after announcing the completion of its acquisition of Italian-based prosumer coffee group LELIT.
The energy sector was buoyed by an increase in oil prices on Friday; Santos added 3.32% to $7.45, and Woodside Energy firmed 2.7% to $31.26.
Dow has closed up by 1.0%, S&P 500 up by 1.1%, and NASDAQ closed higher by 0.9%.
Hang Seng is down by 0.15%, and FTSE 100 is down by 0.01%.
