Sandfire Resources Limited (ASX: SFR) has shared significant updates that the Motheo Copper Mine in Botswana has reached a significant milestone as it successfully produced its first copper concentrate. This achievement was made possible through the introduction of ore to the SAG Mill. The construction of the mine is nearly finished, with equipment commissioning activities almost 92% complete, enabling the initial processing capacity of 3.2 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa).
Furthermore, Sandfire has obtained approval from the Government of Botswana for the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) of the Motheo A4 Project. This approval sets the stage for the issuance of the Mining Licence for the Motheo A4 Pit and the commencement of mining operations. With this accomplished, the company’s focus now shifts towards swiftly and cost-effectively expanding the processing capacity from 3.2Mtpa to 5.2Mtpa by early CY2024.
