NickelSearch Limited (ASX: NIS) has entered into a technical collaboration with Allkem Limited (ASX: AKE), the operator of the Mt Cattlin lithium mine near Carlingup Nickel Sulphide Project in Western Australia. This collaboration stems from Allkem's examination of existing NIS lithium data, including rock chip samples, soil sampling, and geophysical surveys. Under the guidance of AKE's lithium experts, NIS will conduct additional rock chip and stream sediment sampling to refine potential lithium target areas.
Notably, AKE's Mt Cattlin lithium mine recently extended its mine life by 4-5 years through open-pit mining and initiated studies for underground mining options, having produced 131kt of spodumene concentrate in FY2023. While this collaboration is not yet a formal joint venture, both companies aim to assess Carlingup's lithium potential due to geological similarities with Mt Cattlin. NickelSearch Managing Director, Nicole Duncan, expressed enthusiasm for this partnership, emphasizing mutual benefits from sharing expertise and data.
