Energy and Materials sectors are the top 2 gaining sectors, gaining 2.03% and 1.28% in their index values. On the other hand, the utility sector was the top losing sector, declining 0.85% in their index values.

ALS Limited (ASX: ALQ) and Paladin Energy Limited (ASX: PDN) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 6.086% and 5.135% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Elders Limited (ASX: ELD) and National Australia Bank Ltd (ASX: NAB) are the top-losing stocks and are declining by 3.420% and 2.941% in their stock prices.

• ALS, the laboratory services giant, surged by 6% despite a nearly 10% decline in statutory net profit in the fiscal 2024 first half, resulting in reduced guidance and dividends.
• Origin Energy dropped by 1.7% amid ongoing complexities in its takeover bid, with North American suitors trying to sway the biggest shareholder's opposition.
• Bank of Queensland (BOQ) is planning an AU$100 million redemption of capital notes initially issued by Members Equity in 2018.
• The Dow closed up by 0.16%, the S&P 500 down by 0.08%, and the NASDAQ ended lower by 0.22%.
• The Hang Seng rose by 1.30%, and the FTSE 100 went up by 0.89% for the day.
