Factors influencing the market-

  • The S&P/ASX 200 rises and extended gains, tracking a modest rally on Wall Street that pushed the S&P 500 to a fresh high.
  • Karoon Energy Limited’s shares declined after lowering its Brazil production guidance for 2024 to be in the range of 7.2 to 9 million barrels compared to the previous range of 8 to 10 million barrels.
  • Coronado Global Resources rises after it ended the December quarter with higher run of mine coal production, up 3.3 per cent at 6.1Mt compared to the prior period.
  • Judo Bank shares jumped more than 15% after posting a 24% jump in profit before tax of $67 million for the first half. The result was driven by continued above-system lending growth, strong net interest margins, and minimal write-offs.
  • Oil prices rose about 2% in the previous session on concerns over global energy supplies following a Ukrainian drone strike on Russia's Novatek fuel terminal and as extreme cold weather continued to hamper U.S. crude production.
  • The Dow has closed up by 0.36%, the S&P 500 up by 0.22%, and the NASDAQ ended higher by 0.32%.
  • Hang Seng is down by 2.27%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.35%
