Mid-Market: S&P/ASX 200 Trading Higher By 0.43%; AGL Energy Rallying By More Than 14%

On 16 June 2023, at AEST 10:58 AM, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 is trading higher today, gaining 31.00 points or 0.43%, and is currently trading at 7,206.20 levels. Out of 11 sectors, 10 sectors are trading higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

The Utilities and Energy sectors are the top 2 gaining sectors, gaining 2.90% and 1.86% in their index values. On the other hand, the Healthcare is the only losing sector, declining 0.20% in its index value.

AGL Energy Limited (ASX: AGL) and Whitehaven Coal Limited (ASX: WHC) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 14.285% and 5.070% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Johns Lyng Group Limited (ASX: JLG) and Stockland (ASX: SGP) are the top-losing stocks and are declining by 3.339% and 1.205% in their stock prices.

Factors influencing the market-

• AGL Energy’s shares jumped more than 14% after it upgraded its guidance for earnings this financial year, with underlying gross earnings now between $1.33 billion and $1.375 billion, narrowing the range to the upper end of previous guidance.
• Oil prices edged lower in early trade today, taking a pause from the previous session when futures gained steeply on optimism around higher energy demand from top crude importer China.
• Dow has closed up by 1.26%, S&P 500 up by 1.22%, and NASDAQ ended higher by 1.15%.
• Hang Seng is up by 2.17%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.34%.
