Green Critical Minerals Limited (ASX: GCM) exploration efforts in the northern Barkly region have yielded significant advancements in the past year. Previously, geochemical anomalies and magnetic targets indicated potential mineralized bodies at depth within older Proterozoic sequences. However, recent RC and Aircore drilling, as announced on August 24, 2023, along with extensive geochemical studies, revealed a shallower and, in some areas, surface-exposed potential for discovery.
The Cretaceous sequence, about 100 million years old, covering much of the region, is now known to contain substantial volcanic tuffs and explosive eruptive vents. Notably, a diatreme, or vent, was discovered in the western drilling traverse, with hole NBG011 intersecting the causative porphyry breccia intrusion. Several drillholes revealed leached iron oxide infilled veinlets and breccias, believed to be the source of anomalous metals previously detected in surface geochemistry and historic drilling.
