Flinders Mines Limited (ASX: FMS) announced that it has initiated a scoping study for its Pilbara Iron Ore Project (PIOP) in Western Australia, with a focus on developing PIOP resources to produce a +60% Fe direct shipping ore (DSO) product at a sustainable rate of up to 3 million tonnes per annum. The study will explore various development scenarios to add considerable value to the company's shareholders by minimizing capital expenditure and reducing the project's carbon footprint.
Flinders Mines aims to access DSO grade ore with low strip ratios and mine above the water table within the Delta and Paragon deposits. The project will use public access and third-party transport and export infrastructure to lower upfront capital requirements. The company aims to be able to bring its first ore to market in 2025, subject to regulatory and third-party approvals and financing. In addition, Flinders Mines is engaging with Traditional Owners to explore value-adding partnership opportunities.
