Akora Resources (ASX: AKO) reports steady progress on its Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) for the Bekisopa iron ore project and exploratory drilling at Satrokala, Madagascar. Geotechnical drilling at Bekisopa confirms that the weathered zone material is suitable for ripping, eliminating the need for costly drill-and-blast methods. Hydrogeological studies revealed subsurface water at 30-50m depths, potentially supporting mining operations with minimal environmental impact.
Preliminary metallurgical tests indicate Bekisopa’s ore has low hardness and minimal abrasion, which could reduce crushing costs and equipment wear. Infill drilling assay results from Bekisopa are expected soon, while samples from Satrokala have been sent for analysis, with results due by November 2024. Road planning between Bekisopa and Satrokala is also nearing completion. The PFS, managed by Wardell Armstrong International, remains on track for early 2025 completion, focusing on a Stage 1 DSO operation targeting 2 Mtpa of high-grade iron ore for blast furnaces.
