ABS released quarterly Job Vacancies data

Jan 11, 2023

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, there were 444,000 job vacancies in November 2022, down 5% by 23,000 from August 2022. The decrease in job vacancies was mainly driven by the private sector, which generally accounts for around nine in every ten vacancies. Private sector vacancies declined by 6% from August to November 2022, while public sector vacancies increased by 6%.

In November 2022, private sector vacancies were 396,800, and public sector vacancies were 47,400. Both private and public sector vacancies were approximately double what they were in February 2020, up by 96% and 89%, respectively, compared with the pre-pandemic levels.

“The number of job vacancies fell by 5% over the three months to November 2022 and was down by 8% from the peak in May. Despite falling recently, the number of job vacancies in November was 12% higher than November 2021 (398,000) and almost double what they were in February 2020 (228,000), prior to the COVID-19 pandemic”, said by Bjorn Jarvis, head of labour statistics at the ABS.
