Sev.en Global Investments Expands Portfolio with Coronado Acquisition

Sep 26, 2023

Sev.en Global Investments, a prominent Czech-based investment group with a global reach, has finalized an agreement to acquire a substantial 51% stake in Coronado Global Resources Inc. (ASX: CRN). This strategic move marks a significant development in the mining and energy sector and strengthens Sev.en GI's position as a leading producer of high-quality metallurgical coal.

Coronado: A Leading Metallurgical Coal Producer

Coronado Global Resources is renowned for its production of high-quality metallurgical coal from mining complexes in Australia's Bowen Basin and the Central Appalachian region of the United States. With an annual coal production of approximately 16 million tonnes, Coronado ranks among the top five metallurgical coal producers in both countries. The company's vast reserves, totaling 550 million tonnes, ensure a long-term supply of this critical resource and present opportunities for expansion.

Sev.en GI's Vision for Coronado

Alan Svoboda, CEO of Sev.en Global Investments, expressed excitement about the acquisition, emphasizing Coronado's global leadership in metallurgical coal mining. Svoboda affirmed Sev.en GI's commitment to supporting Coronado's growth and market presence in the United States and Australia, aligning with the company's international growth strategy.

Meeting Global Demand for Steel

Metallurgical coal is a vital resource in meeting the increasing global demand for steel, including its use in renewable energy and critical infrastructure. Sev.en GI's acquisition of a majority stake in Coronado positions the group to play a significant role in satisfying this demand.

EMG Founder's Perspective

John Raymond, Founder and Executive Chairman of The Energy & Minerals Group (EMG), expressed satisfaction with the transaction. He highlighted EMG's objectives and the enduring value created by Coronado over the years. Raymond underscored Sev.en's deep understanding of metallurgical coal fundamentals and strong financial position as key factors that will support Coronado's future success.

Pending Regulatory Approvals

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals in both the United States and Australia.
