Market Alert: ASX200 at Critical Support – Reversal or Further Fall?

ASX/200 Closed Higher by 1.04%, Lifted by A-REIT

By the end of the trading session on 01 April 2025, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed lower by 1.04% and settled at 7,925.20. All 11 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

A-REIT and Utilities are the top-gaining sector gaining 2.18% and 1.91% in their index value.

Helia Group Limited (ASX: HLI) and Charter Hall Group (ASX: CHC) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 5.764% and 3.708% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Deep Yellow Limited (ASX: DYL) and Liontown Resources Limited  (ASX: LTR) went down by 7.548% and 6.400% respectively are the top-losing stocks.

  • Tower Limited (NZX: TWR) dropped 10.4% to $1.21 after private equity firm Bain Capital sold approximately 68 million shares at a 12.5% discount to their previous trading price.
  • Anacacia Capital divested its majority stake in Southern Cross Electrical Engineering (ASX: SXE) for $53.5 million, marking a 20% increase from its last valuation. Following the transaction, the company's stock climbed 9.6% to $1.82.
  • SSR Mining (NASDAQ: SSRM) declined 8% to $15.75, despite the company projecting an annual production increase of over 10%.
  • Reserve Bank Governor Michele Bullock cautioned that an improved quarterly CPI reading next week would not necessarily lead to a rate cut in May.
  • Hedge funds and institutional investors slightly raised their short positions in the Australian dollar for the week ending March 25, but conflicting data on outright shorts indicated a lack of strong conviction, according to InTouch Capital Markets.
  • Gold remained near its recent record high, as market volatility pushed investors toward safe-haven assets ahead of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s anticipated tariff announcement, which has fueled fears of a global trade conflict.
  • Major U.S. indices saw mixed movements, with the Dow Jones rising 1.00%, the S&P 500 gaining 0.55%, and the NASDAQ slipping 0.14%.
  • In global markets, the Hang Seng increased by 0.35%, while the FTSE 100 declined by 0.88% as of today.
