ASX/200 Closed Higher by 0.59%, Lifted by Information Technology

By the end of the trading session on 06 November 2024, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed higher by 0.59% and settled at 8,179.90. Out of 11 sectors, 09 sectors ended higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

Information Technology and Financial are the top-gaining sectors, gaining 1.89% and 1.61% in their index value. On the othet hand, Energy and A-REIT are the top-losing sectors, losing 1.22% and 0.54% in their index value.

Neuran Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: NEU) and ZIP Co. Limited (ASX: ZIP) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 7.742% and 5.593% in their stock prices. On the other hand, IGO Limited (ASX: IGO) and Ramelius Resources Limited (ASX: RMS)  went down by 3.452% and 2.802% respectively are the top-losing stocks.

  • Oil prices dipped slightly but retained recent gains, influenced by a close U.S. election and the approach of Hurricane Rafael, which threatens Gulf of Mexico production.
  • Major U.S. indices posted gains: the Dow closed up by 1.02%, the S&P 500 rose by 1.23%, and the NASDAQ climbed 1.42%. 
  • In other markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index increased by 2.14%, while the FTSE 100 slipped by 0.14%.
