ASX 200 rose for the first time in three sessions, taking it to a new nine-month high

By the end of the trading session on 01 February 2023, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 ended Higher by 0.33% and settled at 7,501.70. Out of 11 sectors, 8 sectors closed higher along with the ASX 200.

The A-REIT and Industrials sectors were the top 2 gaining sectors, gained 1.46% and 0.70% respectively in their index values. The Energy and Information Technology sectors were the top 2 declining sectors, declined 1.16% and 0.42% respectively in their index values.

Flight Centre Travel Group Limited (ASX: FLT) and James Hardie Industries Plc (ASX: JHX) were the top gainers, with 8.085% and 4.292% growth in share prices, respectively. On the other hand, Pinnacle Investment Management Group Limited (ASX: PNI) and Paladin Energy Ltd (ASX: PDN) were the top losers, with 7.212% and 4.118% drop in share prices, respectively.

  • China's factory activity shrank more slowly in January than in the previous month after China's zero-COVID policy ended.
  • Most Asian currencies moved slightly in anticipation of a Federal Reserve meeting. The Chinese yuan rose 0.1%, the Japanese yen was muted, and the South Korean won increased 0.2%.
  • Credit Corp Group Limited rose nearly 2% despite a steep decline in net profit in the first half of 2023.
  • Flight Centre’s share price gained after the company announced the completion of the AU$180 share placement.
  • Dow has closed up by 1.09%, S&P 500 up by 1.46%, and NASDAQ ended higher by 1.67%.
  • The Hang Seng is up by 0.76% and the FTSE 100 is down by 0.17%.
