Volkswagen Invests in Patriot Battery Metals for Lithium Supply

Patriot Battery Metals (ASX: PMT) shares soared 13.3% to 35.7¢ on Thursday after Volkswagen acquired a 9.9% stake for C$69 million (AU$76.8 million). This marks Volkswagen’s first venture into the mining sector, ensuring lithium supply for its electric vehicle batteries. Under the agreement, Patriot will provide 100,000 metric tonnes of lithium material over ten years, representing 25% of the initial phase of its Canadian project. The material will support Volkswagen’s battery production in North America and Europe.
