TPG Telecom Limited (ASX: TPG) announced that the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has given the green light to its regional network-sharing arrangement with Optus. This approval is a significant stride towards bolstering mobile services competition and consumer choice in rural and regional Australia. Iñaki Berroeta, CEO of TPG Telecom, expressed his gratitude to the ACCC for recognizing the potential of the regional network-sharing arrangement.
Implementing a multi-operator core network will allow TPG Telecom to gain access to Optus's regional mobile network across 2,444 regional sites, expanding its network coverage to reach 98.4% of the Australian population. This includes access to Optus's 4G and 5G networks. With this breakthrough, TPG Telecom will, for the first time, cover most towns in Australia. It will allow extending its highly regarded mobile services to more people and businesses. Upon launch, TPG Telecom will roll out 4G and 5G services to thousands of new locations and towns, enabling Vodafone, TPG, iiNet, Internode, Felix, and its MVNO customers to access a million square kilometers of mobile coverage across Australia. This strategic partnership aims to revolutionize mobile services and bring about positive change for consumers and businesses alike.
