Sonic Healthcare Limited acquired Medical Laboratories Duesseldorf

Sonic Healthcare Limited (ASX: SHL) has acquired Medical Laboratories Duesseldorf (MLD) for the purchase price of €180 million and it will be funded from Sonic’s existing cash and debt facilities. MLD is one of the leading clinical laboratories in Duesseldorf, the capital of Germany´s most populous state of North-Rhine Westphalia, and is expected to generate revenues of approx. €50 million in FY2024 and employs around 300 staff, including 13 pathologists.

Three pathologist partners and their teams led the laboratory. After the acquisition, all partners and the senior squad at MLD will remain with Sonic following the transaction and work closely with Sonic’s federation of laboratories in Germany. MLD’s laboratories cover all relevant specialist disciplines across laboratory medicine, focusing mainly on hospital service provision, and it was founded in 1968.
