QEM Limited (ASX: QEM) has secured a second vanadium-rich waste stream in Queensland for the purpose of converting it into a battery electrolyte. This achievement comes through an agreement with Incitec Pivot Limited, which follows QEM's previous commitment from Sun Metals in March to provide a vanadium-bearing spent catalyst. The agreement with Incitec Pivot marks another opportunity for QEM to contribute to the Circular Economy by upcycling Queensland's industrial waste into battery-grade vanadium pentoxide (V2O5).
QEM has applied to utilize the AU$75 million Critical Minerals facility in Townsville, provided by the Queensland Government, for the production of high-quality battery-grade V2O5 using the spent catalyst collected from Incitec Pivot and Sun Metals. The off-take agreement between QEM and IPL has an initial term of five years, with the possibility of extension, ensuring a sustainable supply of vanadium for the battery industry.
