Origin approves construction of a large-scale Eraring battery

Apr 20, 2023

Origin Energy Limited (ASX: ORG) will invest approximately AU$600 million at the Eraring Power Station for the first stage of a large-scale battery. The agreement has been signed for the supply and construction of the battery, with works to start within weeks. The structure of a 460 MW battery storage system will involve stage one and two hours of dispatch duration. Origin can increase the battery to four hours of dispatch duration and 700 MW in the future.

Wartsila, the global operator of Finnish technology, will supply battery equipment, and design and construction services will be provided by Enerven, a subsidiary of SA Power Networks. Eraring is Australia’s largest power station, supplying around a quarter of NSW’s energy needs.
