Oil Prices Dip as Trump Delays Tariffs on Key Suppliers

Feb 04, 2025

Oil prices fell after U.S. President Donald Trump postponed tariffs on Canada and Mexico by a month, following agreements on stricter migration and anti-drug measures. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude dropped toward $72 per barrel, reversing Monday’s gains, while Brent crude settled near $76. Earlier, crude had surged 3.7%—its biggest jump in nearly four months—before retreating after the Mexico deal. Meanwhile, a 10% tariff on China remains scheduled, though Trump signaled plans to discuss it with Beijing.
