Nova Eye Medical: Positive Outcome as USA Medicare Reverses MIGS Changes

Nova Eye Medical Limited (ASX: EYE) announces that the proposed changes to Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs) for minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) by five Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs), scheduled for January 29, 2024, will not be implemented. The LCDs aimed to restrict or deny coverage for certain MIGS procedures, including canaloplasty.

This decision ensures that reimbursement coverage for canaloplasty, performed with Nova Eye Medical's iTrack™ portfolio, remains unchanged after January 2024. CEO Tom Spurling sees this as a positive development for the sales of the iTrack™ Advance canaloplasty device in the USA, following confusion caused by the LCDs. The canaloplasty procedure, renowned for its clinical effectiveness and safety since 1999, maintains accessibility for glaucoma patients in the USA, thanks to advocacy from key societal groups and determined ophthalmologists.
