Myer Holdings Limited (ASX: MYR) has approached Premier Investments Limited to discuss a potential merger involving Myer's Apparel Brands business. The aim is to form one of the leading retail and apparel companies in Australia and New Zealand. As part of a thorough strategic review, Myer will concentrate on improving and expanding its range of private label and exclusive brands.
Myer is proposing a merger with Apparel Brands to take advantage of the strong complementarity between the businesses and create significant value for both Myer and Premier shareholders. Apparel Brands consists of well-known clothing brands such as Just Jeans, Jay Jays, Portmans, Jacqui E, and Dotti. It has 717 stores across Australia and New Zealand and generated AU$845 million in revenue in FY23. Myer believes that merging with Apparel Brands presents a significant opportunity to enhance its market position and reap substantial strategic and financial benefits.
