MTM Partners with Vedanta on Alumina Waste Recycling.

Mar 13, 2025

MTM Critical Metals Limited (ASX: MTM) has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Vedanta Limited to advance Red Mud (bauxite residue) recycling using Flash Joule Heating (FJH) technology. Vedanta, a global metals powerhouse with a market cap of AU$20 billion and AU$17 billion in FY2024 revenue, is actively seeking sustainable solutions for Red Mud reprocessing.

The collaboration aims to extract valuable metals such as alumina, titanium, scandium, and rare earth elements while repurposing Red Mud for green cement production. With over four billion tonnes of Red Mud stored globally, MTM’s breakthrough process efficiently removes iron and sodium, producing saleable ferric chloride and unlocking further metal recovery potential. India, the world’s second-largest alumina and cement producer, supports sustainable Red Mud applications, with Vedanta leading the initiative. This partnership marks a major step toward industrial sustainability and critical metal recovery.
