Mid-Market: S&P/ASX 200 Trading Higher; Gained By Utilities And Materials Sectors

On 10 April 2024, at AEST 11:00 AM, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 is trading higher today, gaining 37.80 points or 0.48%, and is currently trading at 7,862.00 levels. Out of 11 sectors, 9 sectors are trading higher along with the gain in the S&P/ASX 200.

The Utilities and Materials sectors are the top 2 gaining sectors, gaining 2.65% and 1.38% in their index values. On the other hand, Consumer Staples and Energy sectors are the top 2 declining sectors, declining 0.62% and 0.56% in their index values.

Resmed Inc. (ASX: RMD) and Ansell Limited (ASX: ANN) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 3.185% and 2.963% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Bank Of Queensland Limited (ASX: BOQ) and Emerald Resources Limited (ASX: EMR) are the top-losing stocks and are declining by 1.717% and 1.715% in their stock prices.

Factors influencing the market-

• Australian shares trading higher, tracking a late rebound on Wall Street and a decline in US Treasury yields from a more than four-month high as investors await key US inflation data.
• Perseus Mining Limited’s shares are declining today after it said Silvercorp had accepted its takeover offer for OreCorp. The Canadian headquartered Silvercorp’s acceptance was for a total of 73,889,007 shares, representing 15.6% of OreCorp shares.
• Oil held a two-day decline after an industry report pointed to a gain in US crude stockpiles, although simmering tensions in the Middle East are expected to cap losses.
• The Dow has closed down by 0.02%, the S&P 500 up by 0.14%, and the NASDAQ ended higher by 0.32%.
• Hang Seng is up by 0.57%, and FTSE 100 is down by 0.11%.
