Mid-Market: S&P/ASX 200 Trading Higher; Gained By A-REIT And Tech Stocks

On 23 April 2024, at AEST 11:00 AM, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 is trading higher today, gaining 39.30 points or 0.51%, and is currently trading at 7,688.50 levels. Out of 11 sectors, 8 sectors are trading higher along with the gain in the S&P/ASX 200.

The A-REIT and Information Technology sectors are the top 2 gaining sectors, gaining 1.48% and 1.28% in their index values. On the other hand, Industrials and Materials sectors are the top 2 declining sectors, declining 0.56% and 0.26% in their index values.

Ramsay Healthcare Limited (ASX: RHC) and Healius Limited (ASX: HLS) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 3.680% and 2.800% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Red 5 Limited (ASX: RED) and Silver Lake Resources Limited (ASX: SLR) are the top-losing stocks and are declining by 6.897% and 6.446% in their stock prices.

Factors influencing the market-

• Australian shares gained at the opening bell as Wall Street shrugged off a US$2 trillion sell-off with the S&P breaching 5000 points and the “magnificent seven” megacaps set to report this week.
• Copper traded near US$10,000 a ton, hitting a new two-year high on its way, as investors continue to pile in on a bet that miners will struggle to service a surge in demand for the bellwether industrial metal.
• Oil futures fell in the previous session as traders focused on market fundamentals, seeing little near-term risk that the Middle East conflict would impact supply.
• The Dow has closed up by 0.67%, the S&P 500 up by 0.87%, and the NASDAQ ended higher by 1.11%.
• Hang Seng is up by 1.77%, and FTSE 100 is up by 1.62%.
