Mid-Market: S&P/ASX 200 Trading Higher; 10 Out 11 Sectors Are In Green

On 15 May 2024, at AEST 11:00 AM, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 is trading higher today, gaining 42.20 points or 0.55%, and is currently trading at 7,769.00 levels. Out of 11 sectors, 10 sectors are trading higher along with the gain in the S&P/ASX 200.

The Materials and Consumer Discretionary sectors are the top 2 gaining sectors, gaining 1.55% and 0.92% in their index values. On the other hand, Energy sector is the only declining sector, declining 0.20% in its index value.

IDP Education Limited (ASX: IEL) and Pro Medicus Limited (ASX: PME) are the top-gaining stocks, gaining 10.831% and 5.045% in their stock prices. On the other hand, Iress Limited (ASX: IRE) and Healius Limited (ASX: HLS) are the top-losing stocks and are declining by 5.925% and 3.732% in their stock prices.

Factors influencing the market-

  • The S&P/ASX 200 buoyed by a rally in index heavyweight BHP, after Anglo American late yesterday unveiled a divestment plan to focus on its potash, copper and iron ore assets.
  • The Australian Agricultural Company Limited’s shares dropped after it swung to a net loss of $94.6 million for the full year after a “challenging” 12 months and softening cattle prices.
  • Oil prices declined as US economic data showed inflation remains elevated, adding to bets the Federal Reserve won’t rush to cut interest rates this year.
  • The Dow has closed up by 0.32%, the S&P 500 closed up by 0.48%, and the NASDAQ ended higher by 0.75%.
  • Hang Seng is down by 0.22%, and FTSE 100 is up by 0.16%.
