Neometals Ltd (ASX: NMT) is excited to announce that Primobius GmbH, its battery recycling joint venture, has secured a purchase order (PO) from Mercedes-Benz for a hydrometallurgical refining Hub. This Hub, part of the lithium-ion battery (LiB) recycling facility in Kuppenheim, Germany, will process intermediate products from the 2,500tpa shredding 'Spoke.' The €18.8M (~ A$30.8M) PO encompasses fabrication, installation, and commissioning.
Primobius, a 50:50 joint venture with SMS group GmbH, is responsible for engineering and equipment supply under the Cooperation with Mercedes. The Hub's design aligns with the capacity needed for processing feed material from the refining Spoke. This milestone marks Mercedes' entry into LiB recycling, contributing to resource conservation and establishing a closed-loop for battery raw materials. The successful commissioning will further validate Primobius' technology for global OEMs and automotive industry needs, paving the way for future scale-ups.
