Lion Selection Group: Strong Investment Performance Amid Resource Market Recovery

Lion Selection Group Limited (ASX: LSG) posted a solid interim result for the half year ended 31 January 2025, driven by strategic investments in micro-cap mining and exploration companies. The firm recorded a net profit of AU$17.2 million, up from an AU$0.4 million loss in the prior period, primarily due to an AU$19 million mark-to-market gain on its investment portfolio. Key contributors included substantial value uplifts in Antipa Minerals, Brightstar Resources, Saturn Metals, and PhosCo Ltd. Despite investing AU$9.6 million—mainly in precious and base metals—Lion maintained a strong balance sheet with AU$47 million in cash and term deposits. No dividends were declared, aligning with the company’s reinvestment strategy. Lion’s team, led by Executive Chairman Robin Widdup and MD Hedley Widdup, continues to assess high volumes of deal flow, positioning the firm well for further growth as confidence returns to junior resource markets.
