Lanthanein Resources Ltd (ASX: LNR) has announced that diamond drilling targeting carbonatite has commenced at its Lyons rare earths project in Western Australia. The drilling will take place along the margins of two carbonatite targets (LI01 and LI03) with two co-funded 450m diamond drill holes. In addition, a recently discovered ironstone target with a 1.8km strike extent has returned 4.19% TREO and 0.90% Nb2O5 from surface rock samples. Lanthanein plans to follow up on 25 more outcropping ironstone targets using surface sampling ahead of drill testing.
The technical director of Lanthanein, Mr. Brian Thomas, said that the company is discovering new ironstones with highly anomalous rare earths and niobium from surface rock samples. These minerals are critical for new technology development. Lanthanein is also conducting a current RC drilling program to test numerous magnetic ironstone targets and a deep 450m diamond drilling program to test the margins of large tonnage carbonatite targets, partly funded by the WA government.
