Global Factors influencing ASX stocks on 19 April 2023

On 19 April 2023, at AEST 11:40 AM, the benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 is trading higher today, gaining 9.90 points or 0.13%, and is currently trading at 7,370.10 levels. The Material sector is only sector which is trading higher along with the S&P/ASX 200.

On that note, let us look at a few global reasons impacting the stock market today:

1. Some of the key U.S. indices ended higher and some ended lower in their previous session. NASDAQ Composite and Dow jones ended lower 0.04%, 0.03% respectively and Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500 ended higher 0.03%, 0.09% respectively.

2. Oil prices surged in early Asian trade today as US oil stocks were expected to shrink and on solid Chinese economic statistics, indicating increased fuel demand.

3. Natural gas prices rise for the third day as a late-April cold encourages heating and reduces store build-up.

4. The dollar declined against most major currencies the previous day on better-than-expected GDP statistics from China, while good pay numbers from the United Kingdom bolstered the pound.

5. Gold regained some ground over $2,000 in the previous session as the dollar relinquished part of its comeback from one-year lows.

6. The Hang Seng is down 0.63% and FTSE 100 is up 0.38%.
