General Motors and Element 25 Partner to Expand US EV Supply Chain

Jun 26, 2023

General Motors and Element 25 Limited (ASX: E25) have signed an agreement to expand the U.S. electric vehicle (EV) supply chain by producing battery-grade high-purity manganese sulfate (HPMSM) domestically. Element 25 will supply GM with up to 32,500 metric tons of manganese sulfate annually, supporting GM's production of over 1 million EVs in North America.

GM will provide an $85 million loan to Element 25 to build a facility in Louisiana, USA, where the company will process manganese concentrate from its mining operations in Western Australia. The investment is part of GM's strategy to secure a reliable supply of battery raw materials and components, creating jobs and strengthening the domestic supply chain for EV production. Element 25 aims to become a leading provider of high-quality, sustainable battery materials for the global EV industry.
