Basel III Compliance Strengthens Austrian Banks Capital Stability Amid Regulatory Disclosures

Nov 07, 2024

In recent Basel III APS 330 disclosures, Austrian financial institutions, such as Bendigo and Adelaide Bank (ASX: BEN) Limited, have highlighted their capital adequacy and regulatory compliance. The disclosures focus on their capital ratios and risk-weighted assets (RWA), essential measures to ensure financial stability. These banks reported robust Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratios, reflecting a strong buffer above minimum regulatory requirements.

Bendigo and Adelaide, for instance, maintain CET1 at around 11.23%, with total capital adequacy at approximately 15.68%, exceeding the required 8% buffer, which includes the conservation buffer of 2.5% and a 1% countercyclical buffer specific to their assets. These disclosures align with Basel III’s intent to increase banking sector resilience and ensure that banks are well-positioned against market volatilities through improved capital standards.
