In a statement of issues published today, The ACCC has raised primary competition concerns with Endeavour Group Limited’s planned procurement of the Beachfront Hotel in Rapid Creek, just north of Darwin. Endeavour Group has a huge number of liquor-related assets all over Australia. It holds BWS stores and Dan Murphy’s stores and manages over 330 licensed places.
The Beachfront Hotel comprises a hotel and adjacent independent bottle shop functioning under the ‘Cellarbrations’ brand. Endeavour Group already runs 4 BWS stores within 5 kilometers of the Beachfront Hotel.
“We are concerned that this proposed acquisition is likely to substantially lessen competition in the supply of takeaway liquor in the local area,” ACCC Commissioner Liza Carver said.
The ACCC’s last decision is currently planned for 09 March 2023. The ACCC is also inspecting the effect of the procurement on the competitiveness of other independent liquor stores in Darwin.
